What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Evergreen Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

Revelation

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself.

The Bible

Jesus

God's inspired, infallible Word and our final authority for life.
We don’t just study the Bible; we let it transform us. We look for the original meaning of the authors, keep Jesus at the center of every story, and rely on the Holy Spirit to help us apply these truths to our modern lives.

Fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, died for our sins, defeated sin, death, and the grave, and physically rose again. Currently seated at the right hand of the Father enthroned King of the universe.

Mankind

The Fall

We believe that every human being is a masterpiece designed by God with intentionality and purpose. Created in His image, men and women are crafted to be equal in dignity, value, and worth, serving as co-image-bearers of their Creator. We were made for fellowship—designed to walk in a vibrant, unbroken relationship with God and one another. Though that original goodness was fractured by sin, our inherent value remains, and through Jesus, we are invited back into the life of connection and belonging we were always meant to enjoy.

Salvation

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.

The Church

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.

Resurrection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. The activated local church is the hands and feet of Jesus in their community.

Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts

We are a continuationist church. This means we believe all the spiritual gifts found in the New Testament are still active today.

Healing and Miracles

We believe God still heals today. We pray with high expectation and sometimes use the biblical symbol of anointing with oil. While we live in the tension that full healing isn't always realized in this life, we trust God’s heart and never blame a person's "lack of faith" for a lack of healing

Baptism

We practice believer’s baptism by immersion. It is an outward "public "declaration" of an inward change—following Jesus in his death and resurrection.

Communion

Sanctity of life

Believers regularly share the Lord’s Supper to remember Jesus’ sacrifice and celebrate our unity in Him.

We believe life is a gift from God that begins at conception. We advocate for the vulnerable—from the unborn to the elderly—and commit to supporting those facing unplanned pregnancies with tangible care and love.

Social justice and equality

Marriage and Sexuality

Following Jesus means seeking justice.
Racial Equality: We unequivocally condemn racism and discrimination. We believe all people reflect God’s image and strive for a culture of genuine reconciliation.
Compassion: We are called to care for the poor and oppressed through service and by challenging systemic issues that hurt the vulnerable.

We believe God’s design for marriage is a sacred, lifelong covenant between one man and one woman. This is the intended context for sexual intimacy. We also believe God created humanity in two distinct, complementary genders (male and female).
Our Heart: We hold these biblical standards firmly while extending radical grace and compassion to everyone, regardless of their journey or struggles.
