lead pastor of vision and teaching

A Journey Toward Clarity and Calling
For Jeremy, faith wasn’t always a straight line. Growing up as a bit of a "religious mutt"—splitting time between a Pentecostal church and a fundamentalist Baptist school—he saw a confusing gap between the lessons taught in the classroom and the lives lived outside of it. Disillusioned by the discrepancy, Jeremy walked away from it all as a teenager.

Years later, while in college, Jeremy met his wife, Mary. They were living for the moment and enjoying the "carefree party life" when they received life-changing news: they were expecting their first child.

The birth of their son, Simon, became a catalyst for change. Seeking a new direction for their growing family, Jeremy and Mary walked into NewSpring Church in Anderson, SC. In 2009, they heard the Gospel presented with a clarity they had never experienced before. That year, they both decided to follow Jesus, trading their old lifestyle for a new foundation.

It wasn't long before Jeremy felt a distinct call to full-time ministry. He joined the NewSpring staff in 2017, where he earned his ministry license and honed his heart for pastoring. Over the years, he has become a frequent voice in preaching and teaching, driven by a deep love for the Word of God.

Nothing gets Jeremy more excited than watching someone’s eyes light up as they discover a truth in the Bible for the very first time. Today, Jeremy and Mary live in the joy of that discovery every day, raising their two children, Simon and Lillian.

michael chavis

Lead pastor of care and prayer

A Story of Grace and New Beginnings
Growing up as the eldest of three, Michael learned to navigate life’s challenges early on. Following his parents' divorce, he stepped into responsibility quickly, eventually striking out on his own to build a successful career. But beneath the outward success and a "work hard, play hard" lifestyle, a persistent emptiness remained.

Michael hoped marriage would be the missing piece to fill that void. However, when his marriage ended in 2020, he found himself at his lowest point, grappling with despair and thoughts of ending his life. At the end of his own strength, Michael fell to his knees with a simple, desperate prayer: "God, take my life and do what only You can with it."
That surrender changed everything.

Guided by a nudge to find a church home, Michael walked into NewSpring in Powdersville, SC. It was there that the Gospel truly clicked. He didn't just find a seat in a row; he found a community, a mentor, and a new life in Christ. His growth was rapid and "vigorous," as he traded the weekend lifestyle for the life of a disciple.

In 2022, God’s restoration took a personal turn. At a staff Christmas event, Michael was introduced to Holly Cox. Just six months later, they were walking down the aisle to start their life together as the Chavis family.

Today, Michael serves with a heart shaped by his own journey from darkness to light. Having completed the NewSpring Pastoral Development program and possessing years of experience in prayer and care ministry, he is passionate about meeting people where they are. Michael’s greatest joy is helping others realize that no matter how far off the path they feel, Jesus is ready to lead them toward their next step.
